Cop injured in firing on police

Islamabad   –  A cop of Islamabad police was shot and injured by a suspected robber in firing on a police patrolling party at Lehtrar Road, informed sources on Tuesday.

Police also retaliated and held a suspected robber in injured condition, they said.

Another armed attack on a fruit shop apparently by 10 attackers in Police Foundation at PWD left four persons injured critically, they said.

Three persons including two women were also abducted and dacoits and auto theft gangs deprived citizens of mobile phones, cash, gold ornaments, three vehicles and a motorcycle in different areas of Islamabad, they said.

According to sources, a police motorcycle squad was on routine patrol when the cops stopped two suspected motorcyclists and asked them to prove identity by removing masks at Lehtrar Road, the area of Police Station (PS) Khanna.

However, one of the accused opened firing on police that left a constable Abi Ali injured. A suspect namely Rashid Zaman also got injured during cross firing and was held by police, they said. Police have registered case against the attackers and started investigation, the sources said.

In Police Foundation, a group of at least nine persons launched an armed attack on a fruit shop at Police Foundation in PWD, the limits of Police Station (PS) Lohibher, over some petty issue. Resultantly, four persons including Ikram Ullah and Noor Muhammad suffered bullet injuries, sources said adding that the attackers managed to escape from scene after committing crime. A heavy contingent of police rushed to the scene and shifted the victims to hospital for medical treatment.

Later, police registered a case against nine attackers on complaint of Amjad Ali and managed to arrest four accused, they said. An investigation officer told media that a brawl occurred between customers and the fruit seller over some issue in the shop and later the customers carried out an attack and killed the shopkeeper and injured three others.

As many as three persons namely Muqadas Rani, Aroosa Sheikh and 14-year-old boy were kidnapped by unknown kidnappers from limits of police stations Shehzad Town, Sihala and Banigala. Police registered case against the kidnappers and started investigation.

A man namely Nazir Ahmed told PS Industrial Area that two armed men snatched motorcycle from him on gunpoint at IJP Road. Similarly, Khalid Salim lodged complaint with PS Golra that two dacoits deprived him of Rs 25000 on gunpoint at G-14/4.

A government officer Sabir Hussain lodged complaint with PS Secretariat that unknown robbers pilfered two LEDs from office of Auditor General of Pakistan. 

Meanwhile, auto theft gangs picked up three vehicles and a motorcycle from areas of police stations Sihala, Shehzad Town, Industrial Area and Sabzi Mandi, sources informed. On the other hand, Khanna Police arrested two members of criminals involved in dacoities and recovered snatched cash, mobile phone and weapons from their possession, a police spokesman said.  According to details, SSP (Operations) Dr Syed Mustafa Tanweer directed all police officials to ensure effective policing measures in the city and trace those involved in dacoity cases.

Following their directions, SP (Rural Zone) Rana Abdul Wahab constituted a team under the supervision of ASP Usman Munair including Station House Officer Khanna Police Station 

Sub-Inspector Kamal Khan along with other officials which held two-member dacoit gang involved in snatching valuables at gun point. They have been identified as Rizwan Tariq and Danyal Raisat.

Police team also recovered snatched cash, mobile phones and illegal weapons from their possession. During the preliminary investigation, they confessed their involvement in incidents of looting people in various areas of city.  Separate cases have been registered in police stations against the nabbed persons and further investigation is underway from them.

DIG (Operations) Afzal Ahmed Kausar and SSP (Operations) Dr. Syed Mustafa Tanweer appreciated this overall performance and directed all police officials to ensure effective policing measures in their respective areas.
