QUETTA – Over 500 people mostly traders and activists of political parties staged a protest demo blocking National Highway at Dera Allahyar on Saturday against the kidnapping of local trader Israr Khosa and demanding of the government for his safe release. The participants blocked National Highway by burning old tyres on the roads that caused disruption in vehicular traffic close to Balochistan and Sindh border. The traffic came to a standstill for several hours that caused traffic jam on both sides and inconvenience for the commuters. The protesting traders and activists of National Party were raising slogans against the govt and police for their failure to protect the traders from kidnappers. While addressing the demo, the local traders leader Abdul Khaliq criticised the govt and police and other law-enforcing agencies for their failure to protect the business community and said that the incidents of kidnapping for ransom had become a lucrative business in Jaffarabad district. He said that highway robberies had also been continuing. He threatened that traders would intensify their strike if steps were not taken for safe recovery of Israr Khosa who was kidnapped a few days ago. Traders of Dera Allahyar threatened to lay siege around the office of District Police Officer Jaffarabad till the recovery of kidnapee, he said. The abduction of vulnerable communities like businessmen community particularly of Hindus has always been a lucrative business in Balochistan and even personnel of Frontier Corps Balochistan and local police and Levies were found involved in the racket. They were arrested alongwith criminal elements backed by the local tribal notables.
