At least 75% of the feeders providing electricity to Karachi would be exempted from loadshedding during  Ramadan, K-Electric announced Thursday.

The power utility added that on the occasion of Eid, the entire city would not face any power outage.

KE’s Chief Marketing and Communication Officer (CMCO) Sadia Dada, addressing a press conference alongside the company’s chief executive Moonis Alvi, said a 220 KV double circuit project in Jamshoro has been completed with the help of the National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC).

The spokesperson said NTDC has allowed KE to add 450 MW to its system, following which, a total of 1,100 MW electricity would be provided to Karachi.

Moreover, the work on Bin Qasim Power Plant III is 70% complete, while upto 70% installation work of pipelines for the project is also complete.

In April-May, the demand for electricity may go up from 2,900 MW to 3,000 MW, however, there will be no need for load management this month, she said.

“Maximum power demand can go up to 3,300 MW,” Dada added.
