LAKKI MARWAT – Former member National Assembly Hamayun Saifullah Khan on Saturday said that Kurrum Tang Dam and Baran Dam projects were the lifeline for the socio-economic development of southern districts. He urged the government to expedite work on both water reservoirs to ensure their completion within stipulated time.
Hamayun Saifullah told The Nation that he was in constant contact with the provincial and federal government authorities to start work on the second phase of KT Dam and accelerate work on Baran Dam project. He said both projects were the matter of life and death for the people, especially the farmer community of Lakki Marwat district.
“The Baran Dam will help store flood water of Baran Nullah and Kurrum River to feed Marwat Canal system that would bring around 180000 acres of barren land under cultivation in Lakki Marwat, Bannu and tribal sub-divisions,” he maintained. Saifullah said that former chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Parvez Khattak had provided a huge chunk of funds to initiate work on the project of Baran Dam.
The former MNA said that he had written a letter to former chief minister Parvez Khattak (now defence minister) requesting him to use his influence and direct quarters concerned to expedite pace of work on the project.
