Lawyers want govt to quash FIR against ex-judge, others

MANSEHRA: The district bar association has passed a unanimous resolution asking the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to quash the first information report (FIR) lodged against former judge of Supreme Court Ejaz Afzal Khan, his son and brother on the direction of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Law.

“The bar association wants the withdrawal of the FIR lodged against its two members and the former judge of the apex court,” the resolution said.

It was passed at a meeting of the association held with its president Bilal Khan advocate in the chair.

The president of Peshawar High Court Bar Association Abbottabad circuit bench Sabir Tanoli, president of district bar Association Abbottabad Sattar Khan Jadoon, ex-member KP Bar Shahjahan Khan Swati and others attended the meeting.

Talking to reporters after the meeting, Shahjahan Swati said that members of KP Bar Council had decided to boycott court proceedings across the Hazara division today against the registration of the FIR.

It was alleged that the FIR was registered against former judge justice Ejaz Afzal Khan, his son Saif Ali Khan and brother Sajjad Afzal Khan at the behest of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz MNA Mohammad Sajjad Awan, the elder brother of Mohammad Safdar Awan.

He said that MNA Mohammad Sajjad had asked the police to register the FIR, but they didn’t oblige him, which prompted him to get the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Law involved in the matter that directed the police to lodge the case.

Mohammad Sajjad stated in the FIR that he was getting constructed boundary wall around a 10 kanal piece of land owned by his brother Mohammad Safdar, the son-in-law of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif when the gunmen of Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan, his son Saif Ali Khan and brother Sajjad Afzal Khan opened fire on him.
