ISLAMABAD – Pakistani and Indian foreign ministers would face each other at the meeting of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Foreign Ministers being held in Tajik capital Dushanbe on July 13 and 14.
Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi would lead Pakistani delegation in the conference, where he may face his Indian counterpart Subrahmanyam Jaishankar who is also attending the conference.
Diplomatic sources told The Nation that the SCO contact group on Afghanistan is the most important event which would discuss the current security situation of Afghanistan and would evolve a strategy for the future of Afghanistan. A joint communiqué would also be issued by the SCO contact group on Afghanistan.
Although both Pakistan and India did not make any formal request for the meeting, yet Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and his Indian counterpart would face each other including handshaking at the opening and group photo session. On the sidelines of the SCO FMs meeting, Foreign Minister Qureshi would meet his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi, Foreign Minister of Russia and Afghanistan.
