Police arrest wanted criminal

Rawalpindi-Officials of Chontra police station have rounded up a criminal most wanted-cum-proclaimed offender and put him behind the bars, informed a police spokesman on Wednesday.

The PO identified as Chaudhry Shamas alias Shamu was wanted by Rawalpindi police for his involvement in a series of crimes ranging from murder, attempted murder, firing on police party, land grabbing and extortion, he added.

According to him, City Police Officer (CPO) Muhammad Ahsan Younas has constituted a special team under supervision of ASP Saddar Circle Saud Khan tasking it to arrest Shamu. 

The ASP, along with team members including SHO PS Chontra Inspector Abdul Aziz and SI Yasir Mehmood, managed to trace the PO Shamu by using latest technology and human intelligence and held him during a raid, he said. 

He added police had already handcuffed Imran alias Mana, an accomplice and frontman of Shamu, during an action last week. 

Sharing his crime list, the police spokesman said Shamu is involved in firing on Bukhtiar in 2018 and killing another poor worker Shamon of Rawalpindi Cantonment Board in 2020. He said the PO Chaudhry Shamas and his accomplices also received Rs 1.1 million extortion money from a citizen in March 2021.

Meanwhile, CPO Muhammad Ahsan Younas has appreciated the efforts of ASP Saud Khan and Inspector Abdul Aziz for netting crime boss Chaudhry Shamas aka Shamu. 

It may be noted that Chaudhry Zahid, the brother of Shamu, and his brother in law Shahid were involved in murder of Inspector Mian Imran Abbas, the former SHO PS Race Course. Police have killed the both criminals Zahid and Shahid during encounters in areas of police stations Civil Line and Westridge.
