In wake of rising coronavirus cases, the punjab Tourism department has decided to suspend tourist activities until April 11.
According to the details, after the current COVID-19 wave has reached to an alarming situation in country specially in Punjab province, in a notification, the Tourism Department has recommended to close historical sites in the province.
The notification states that after closure of educational institutes, and directives of 50% work from home for all public and private sectors; the general public is likely to visit the monuments, historical sites and other tourist points in Punjab which would spread the coronavirus.
Therefore, in order to discourage large gatherings and spread of growing coronavirus cases, the tourists sites has been closed in Punjab.
Shalimar Gardens, Tomb of Jahangir and Hiran Minaar are among those historical sites which are being closed.
In this regard, the Secretary Tourism said that this decision has been taken in the larger public interest. We can control large gatherings which would help to curb the spread coronavirus cases, he added.
